At its fall hardware event, Amazon introduced two new Kindles: an upgraded Kindle Scribe and the company’s first-ever Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, both featuring AI-powered tools for reading and writing.
The new Kindle Scribe comes with an 11-inch glare-free display, is just 5.4mm thin, weighs 400g, and is 40% faster when writing or turning pages. With a new texture-molded glass, writing feels more natural—like pen on paper. It also includes a quad-core processor, more memory, and Amazon’s latest Oxide display technology for smoother performance.
Two versions will be available:
- With front light – launches later this year in the U.S., starting at $499.99
- Without front light – coming early next year, starting at $429.99
The highlight of the event is the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, Amazon’s first color Kindle. It uses Colorsoft display technology, designed to be easier on the eyes than LCD screens. It offers weeks of battery life, a new rendering engine for smoother writing, and creative tools such as gradient shading, 10 pen colors, and 5 highlighter colors. The Colorsoft will launch at $629.99.
AI-Powered Reading & Writing Features
Both new devices come with advanced AI features, including:
- Note Search + AI Summaries – quickly find notes and get simplified summaries.
- Send Notes to Alexa+ – next year, users can have interactive conversations about their documents.
- Story So Far – instantly recap a book’s plot up to your current page.
- Ask This Book – highlight any passage and get spoiler-free explanations about characters, motives, or themes.
Amazon is also redesigning the Home experience, making it easier to open recent books, documents, and notebooks. These features will arrive on the Kindle iOS app later this year and roll out to Kindle devices in early 2026.
